I love to be inspired by speaches, books, podcasts or videos. This week, I wanted to share with you my favorite 5 TED Talks (and a bonus), that influenced my vision of a great leader.
The power of vulnerability – Brené Brown
A great leader is able to show his/her/their vulnerability, because it creates trust and a deep link with the team and peers. It is an act of courage, but a leader role modelling vulnerability will also benefit from it, as he/she/it does not have to hide behind a mask and lose energy because of this.
The gift and power of emotional courage – Susan David
In this video, Susan David takes us through emotional intelligence and the benefits of accepting and labelling all our feelings, even the negative ones. She shead a new light on emotions: they are useful for us. Their acceptance is a cornerstone of our balance and happiness in the world.
The power of believing that you can improve – Carole Dweck
Carol Dweck is THE reference when it comes to continuous learning. She teaches us that we are all learners, not matter our ages, no matter our background, no matter our context. We have the ability to learn in any area, as long as we switch our mind to a growth mindset, rather than a fixed mindset.
How great leaders inspire actions – Simon Sinek
I couldn’t make this list without mentioning Simon Sinek. This talk, as well as his book “Start with why” had a huge impact on my rooting system. Being purpose-driven, deeply, understanding your why, as a leader, and being able to build and bring this to live with your team, has such a positive impact that I could never work without it any more.
Are you a giver or a taker? – Adam Grant
Adam Grant is a reference in terms of psychology at work. In this talk, he gives us a clue about givers and takers mindsets. When you want to lead, it is very important to understand where you want to belong and who you are surrounded with. Agile leaders are servant leaders. They know giving and helping in 10 times more powerful than controlling and taking power. Giving brings people together. Too much taking screws up an organization’s culture.
BONUS: Greatness – David Marquet
Last but not least: this one is my favorite video when I teach Agile leadership. Yes, you can create this mindset of empowering autonomous teams, even in a submarine and a military context. Mind blowing!
